seepage / suintement
seepage / suintement
It is a simple action to unplug – a way to stop things from meeting, to let something out or watch it drain away. The fridge in my studio was accidentally unplugged and left a puddle on the floor, slowly seeping into an experiment of plaster, food colouring and drywall. I had always intended to add water but perhaps not like this.
We usually do not see the because of, or the consequences of a rinse, or what something does after we watched it leave. The eternal recurrences of keeping something wet and drying things out.
A concentration of Dawn dish soap is used to remove oil spillage from bird's bodies. It is especially ideal because it removes the grease while apparently being gentle on the skin. They say no other soap is as effective. The ingredient that makes it special is a petroleum product, polyethylene glycol. They say you can’t fight fire with fire but Dawn might remove the pink plasticine from the concrete column.
The creation of this work was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
